Workplace Experience

What is Workplace Experience learning in CBT?

The purpose of workplace experience learning in Competency- Based Training (CBT) is to help the CBT learner o develop knowledge, attitude and skills in the real work role or work situation context. The course at institutions, therefore, the learners, students or trainees, is suppose to have Workplace experience as one of subject they are suppose to achieve. Learners join this subject for about three months, after theory and practice training at institutions. This Workplace experience can be realized through strong cooperation among COTVET, industries and TVET institutions

This will help the CBT learner to:

  1. Contribute to the planning and arrangement of a workplace experience placement with facilitator minimum support
  2. Carry out allocated tasks during workplace experience with minimum supervision
  3. Relate effectively with others in planning and undertaking workplace experience learning
  4. Identify the contribution of the knowledge and skills gained to own personal and social development

To achieve the above Learning Outcomes the workplace experience, facilitator / assessor will have to collect evidence of the learners learning and make judgment.
These Evidence include:

  1. Evidence must be generated to demonstrate that learners have assessed their personal qualities, skills and interests, selected an appropriate workplace experience placement and accurately gathered placement information as detailed in Performance Criteria and the range statement
  2. Evidence must be generated to demonstrate that learners have undertaken a placement, carried out agreed tasks and met all placement requirements as detailed in Performance Criteria and the range statement
  3. Evidence must be generated to demonstrate that learners have presented and conducted themselves appropriately and practiced a range of technical skills as detailed in Performance Criteria and the range statement
  4. Evidence must be generated to demonstrate that learners have re-assessed their personal strengths, expressed feelings, responded to feedback on their performance and recognize the learning gained on placement as detailed in Performance Criteria and the range statement
